Wisma Geylang Serai

This was a competition proposal organised by URA to design a new Civic Centre for the Geylang Serai Precinct in conjunction with URA’s master plan to gentrify Paya Lebar Central.

The proposal drew inspiration from the formerly existing Malay Villages’ colourful kampong houses that were demolished to make way for the new civic centre. The architectural planning and form is meant to relate to the village structures that have emerged organically. The resultant design hoped to create a new spatial experience that converges naturally between the public and private, inside and outside spaces.
